For sale is very lovely piece of art glass made by Tiffany Studios, New York. The item is a "Epergne" flower form shaped vase. It is done in Tiffany's highly sought after gold Favrile iridescent style of art glass. This vase has some size to it as it stands just shy of 11" tall at 10 15/16". The top opening has a diameter of 6 1/2" outside measurements and a inside diameter of 4 3/4". The foot has a diameter of 5 1/8".
The vase depicts a very pleasing flower form shape. The piece starts with a round ribbed foot with a slight kick up in the center like the antique bottles. A large thick stem rises up from the foot and is pulled and manipulated to create the Flower Form shape all created from the same glass that the stem is made of. This is quite difficult to do and only master craftsmen at Tiffany Favrile Studios were capable. The form comes out of the stem and flares out and rolls in. There is a flaring neck the surrounds the roll in the form. It flares out and up and at a slight angle to complete this elegant shape. When looking straight into the vase it looks like a flower especially because of the shape and the brilliant fuchsia color.
The vase has a brilliant gold iridescent finish both inside and out. The iridescence inside the form is outstanding. The brilliant fuchsia tone makes this piece look electric or on fire. The detailed ribbing in the foot gives this form an added appeal. The foot has a beautiful rolled edge that rolls to the underside. When flipped over you can see the delicate outer border that was created by this along with strong platinum iridescenct hues. The vase has a rough pontil mark. The glass looks metallic yet it is ever so fragile art glass.
This vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips or dings. There are no excuses to be made for this example. I cannot find scratches as well. Truly a superior example of this form and color. The vase is properly signed with the counter clockwise etched script signature mark that reads"L.C Tiffany-Favrile". There is also a number lightly scratched in the smooth area of the pontil that reads "2846". I believe this to have been an order number. I have also attached a black and white photo that shows this form in the Tiffany Studios catalog. He refers to this shape as an "Epergne" with the style name of "Prince". It was available in 2 sizes, an 11 inch and a 14 inch.
This is a quality piece of art glass made by Tiffany Studios, New York. The gold Favrile, Aurene iridescence and form was executed by a master and is just outstanding!! The iridescence rivals Steuben's Gold Aurene!! I'm quite sure the buyer will be delighted with their purchase.
