Steuben,

Sold

For sale is a lovely piece of art glass made by The Steuben Glass Company of Corning, New York. The item is a hand blown "Twisted Stemmed Sherbet" or "Champagne" and it is done in the "Gold Aurene" style of art glass. The sherbet is a nice size as it stands 3 7/8" tall and is 3 7/8" in diameter. The foot has a diameter of 2 5/8".

The stemmed sherbet has a wonderful shape. It starts off on a round foot with a short twisted applied stem that reaches the underside cup body. The body is in the shape of an inverted or upright bell shape with a flaring top lip. The top lip is fire polished and has a rounded edge. This is all done in Steuben's famous gold Aurene style of art glass. The colors are brilliant gold and when looking inside the cup the fuchsia is so strong it looks like it is on fire. The glass is smooth and silky to the touch.

This sherbet is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. There are really no excuses to be made for this piece as it is an excellent example in both form and color.

This Sherbet is signed on the bottom outside edge of the pontil in an etched script that reads "AURENE" and the shape number "2361". This sherbet also displays a counter sunk polished pontil on the bottom, the finishing sign of a quality hand blown piece of art glass. I will provide a link below to show this item on the Steuben Club Website.

Steuben Art Glass is some the highest quality glass you can own. At the turn of the century LCT Tiffany Studio's Favrile line was their main competitor and their fared equally as well creating some of the nicest art glass pieces the world has ever seen. Steuben stemware is somewhat hard to find in excellent condition. These items were used and most of them did not make it through. Those of you who collect Steuben stemware and want an exceptional example, do not let this one slip by you!!

This piece was made, Circa 1920-1929.
