For sale is a beautiful art pottery vase made by The Roseville Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The pattern is called "Gardenia" and it is in the most popular large double handled vase shape. The vase has some size to it as it stands an impressive 12 1/2" tall and is 7 3/8" in diameter outside top oval mouth.
The pattern is a very pleasing one of a banded white Gardenia in full bloom surrounded by detailed veined green leaves on each side of the Flower. The vase is just wonderful as it bleeds from a soft lilac purple at the bottom to a medium gray and then back to the soft lilac bordering the top rim. There are two strap shaped handles showing its masculine support.
This vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, or chips. The only issue to report is the usual crazing with this glaze. Other than this there are no excuses to be made for this very large vase. The vase is signed on the bottom in raised relief "Roseville U.S.A." and the mold number 687-12". There is also an small letter "x" and the letter "Z" written in a deep blue grease pencil. These are more than likely the finisher's marks.
This piece was made circa 1950 just after World War II. Those of you who collect this pattern and want a nice crisp example this would be an excellent choice.
