For sale is a wonderful art deco designed vase made by The Rookwood Pottery Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. The vase is a nice cabinet size as it stands 3 3/16" tall and is approximately 4 3/4"wide at its widest point and the top outside rim is 3 1/2" outside measurement.
The vase has a very pleasing jardiniere or planter shape. It displays a very pleasing robin's egg country blue background glaze with a soft pink interior on a white base clay. The jardiniere is further decorated with a garland of small "Posies" or "Forget-Me-Nots". The detail is just outstanding as the flowers are painted in a white with yellow centers and pink buds. The leaves are a nice pastel green. The entire pattern is outlined in black to give added dimension and show the color separation. Each group of flowers are connected with a thorny vine. This give this pattern a very realistic view.
The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The vase is signed with Rookwood's impressed reverse "RP" and sunburst logo along with the roman numerals "XXIII" for the year of manufacture, 1923. There is also the mold number "1061" impressed under the date and a large letter "V" to the right of the roman numbers to show this is done in a "Vellum" glaze. There are also the letter "L.A." incised under the form number for the artist "Lenore Asbury". SHe was one of Rookwood's top decorators and her work is highly collected.
This will make a wonderful addition to any Vellum Rookwood Pottery Collection and would look just great on that Stickley, Mission, Arts and Crafts style bookcase. A very nice example of Lenore Asbury's work.
