For sale is a wonderful arts and crafts shaped vessel made by The Grueby Pottery Company of Boston, Ma. The vase is called "Corseted Bud" vase and it is done in a wonderful combination of a Grueby's matte glazes. The vase is a nice cabinet size as it stands 6 3/4" tall and is 3 1/8" in diameter. The top hole is 1 5/8" n diameter.
The vase displays a corseted shape. It starts out with a wide base and tapers in to a very narrow middle. It then rises up in a cylindrical shape for a short distance and flares out ever so gently. The top has a small opening to put flowers. This shape resembles a beaker shape. This Grueby vase has an outstanding matte blue gray on beige oatmeal textured glaze.
The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips or dings. It is signed with the circular impressed mark which reads "GRUEBY . POTTERY . BOSTON . U.S.A." with a Lotus Leaf impressed in the middle. This is later mark and I would say that this vase was made circa 1907-1911.
This is wonderful piece of art pottery is done in a beautiful and so commonly found Grueby glaze. I'm quite sure the buyer will be very pleased with their purchase. This is truly a unique example.
