Steuben

$175.00

For sale is a utilitarian piece of art glass made by The Steuben Glass Company of Corning, New York. The item is a hand blown "Luncheon Plate" and it is done in Amber and French Blue. The plate is a good size as it stands 3/4" tall and is 8 5/8" in diameter.

The plates primary color is Amber and it is decorated with a French Blue rim and center plate accent. The applied treatments were done by master gaffers or glass blowers as it is evenly and skillfully applied with no wavering out of symmetry. The plate is beautiful and sure to make a statement at an elegant party and setting or simply for the collector of fine crystal, plates, etc. I have found a set of 8 plates of this little gem so contact me if you are interested in more than one. I was going to list them as a set but the double ring accent is not commonly found so I wanted the avid Steuben plate collector to be able to obtain one if they desired. There are no chips on any of this set so it was obviously cherished by the previous owner.

The plate is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. There are hardly any scratches on the plate and this includes the bottom. The piece is unsigned and most likely had a paper label. The piece does display a polished counter sunk pontil mark, this is the finishing mark of a quality hand blown art glass. This is shape number 2028 in the Steuben catalog of shapes. I have attached a link to the Steuben Club Website to show you below.

This plate is the same color that I am selling but with only 1 trim color. It is used to show you that this model plate did have the single rim color. The one I am selling is the very 1st example of a colored crystal 2028 plate with double rim colors for the website since they started more than 7 years ago. This exact one here will be added to the website within a month or so. I found a set of 8 of these plates. I was going to sell them as a set and realizing how scarce these are I decided to sell them individually. I will offer them to the 1st one I can strike a deal with. Once 1 of these is sold and they don't purchase the others I will probably offer them 1 at a time so 8 collectors can have a scarce and hard to find color in this most beautiful plate.

Steuben art glass is some the highest quality glass you can own. At the turn of the Century LCT Tiffany Studio's Favrile line was their main competitor and their glass fared equally as well. They created some of the nicest art glass vases the world has ever seen. The utilitarian items were used and most of them did not survive. Those of you who collect Steuben and want an excellent rare example do not let this scarce one slip by you!! This is such a elegant color combination. This piece was later in Steuben's production as it was made circa 1920-1930.
