For sale is a beautiful vase made by The Fulper Pottery Company of Flemington, NJ. The vase is done in what we call a "Squat Buttressed Handled" or "Arts and Crafts" style vase. It is done in one of Fulper Pottery's most beautiful glazes known as "Copper Dust. The vase has a nice size to it as it stands 4 9/16" tall and is 6" in diameter at the waist or its widest point.
It has a rich frothy background glaze that is accented with a light Copper Dust glaze. These crystals sparkle when held in the sun. These crystals are more plentiful on one side. The vase is accented with 2 buttressed style handles that rises up from the waist and attaches to the top lip perfectly flush or even with the top opening. These appear to be two backward (7's) shaped buttress handles. This gives this piece that added arts & crafts, mission flair.
The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. There are a couple of scuff marks on the underside and this is pictured. This cannot be seen when dispayed. The vase is marked on the underside bottom with Fulper's incised racetrack "Fulper" mark. This would date this vase to have been made Circa 1916-1922. This vase is known as shape number 452 in the Fulper Catalog Pages and was called a "Two Handled Jar" according to the book on Fulper by Hibel-Defalco-Rago.
This is a wonderful example of this form and glaze from Fulper. I'm quite sure the buyer will be very pleased with their purchase. This would look outstanding on that Stickley, Mission, arts and crafts style bookcase.
