For sale is a wonderful art pottery bowl and flower frog made by the Rookwood Pottery Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. The bowl is a nice size as it stands 3 1/16" tall and is approximately 7 3/4" in diameter at its widest point. The bowl has an opening of approximately 6" inside diameter. The flower frog measures 1 1/4" tall and is 2 7/8" in diameter at the base.

The bowl displays a very pleasing Decorated Mat wide mouth bowl painted with red and rust colored chrysanthemums. The bowl also has a smaller red flower in between the clusters of mums and appears to be a three repeat pattern. This painting adorns the entire outer belly of the bowl up to the rim. It is set on a three colored background that starts as black at the top softly blending to plum burgundy to navy blue. this is similar to Van Briggle's mulberry glaze. The interior of the bowl shows the swirl from fingertips on a potters wheel and the color blends from mauve to subtle blue at the interior rim.

The flower frog is a three footed frog 10 holes for flowers and is also in the mauve glaze. This is a wonderful bonus to have found with this lovely piece.

The bowl is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The vase is signed with Rookwood's Impressed Reverse "RP" and Sunburst Logo along with the Roman Numerals "XXVI" for the year of manufacture, 1926. There is also the mold number "957C" impressed under the date. There is also the artist cipher of an "LNL" inside of a circle for the Rookwood artist Elizabeth N. Lincoln. She was considered one of the better artists at Rookwood.

To have the same color flower frog is a real bonus and this is included with the bowl as a freebie. The frog is considered to be in very good condition as it has one small bruise to the edge of one foot however it is still intact. It has one small impact nick that has created a glaze like blister and measures about 1/2" round. It is not noticeable when displayed in the bowl and is a wonderful addition to the piece. It is also signed with the reverse RP logo and a mold number of 1621E.

This will make a wonderful addition to your Rookwood Pottery Collection and would look just great on that Stickley, Mission, Arts and Crafts Style Bookcase. This is a gorgeous artist signed piece of Rookwood that will surely be treasured by its new owner. This one is almost as good as the day it was made as there are really no excuses to be made for this piece.
