For sale is a lovely piece of art glass made by Tiffany Studios, New York. The item is the highly collected and very desirable Blue Favrile style of art glass and the item is a corseted squat bowl with ribbing. The bowl has some size as it measures just shy of 7" at 6 7/8" in diameter. It stands just shy of 3" at 2 15/16". The bottom has a diameter of 4 1/2".The bowl has a corseted squat shape with raised vertical ribs surrounding the entire bowl. There are 10 of the raised ribs. Each rib rises up from the foot curling every so slightly to the right as it works it way up to the top lip or rim area. The top rim has a slight wave to it from these ribs.
The ribbing almost disappears once it hits the top edge. The ribs are very pronounced on the outside and inside of the bowl. The Peacock Blue Favrile, Aurene iridescence is just outstanding!! You can see beautiful purples and fuchsia. The inside of the bowl is more brilliant than the outside. On the underside bottom there appears top be a thumb print shape in between each rib. This was done intentionally as it was considered a decoration.
The bowl is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The piece shows minimal wear on the inside and outside. There are some minor scratches in the iridescence and minor wear along the top lip to the iridescence. The bowl is signed on the bottom with Tiffany's counter clockwise etched signature that reads, "L.C.T. Favrile " for Louis Comfort Tiffany. This sits along the bottom edge of the bowl. There is a counter sunk polished pontil. This is the finishing sign of a quality piece of hand blown art glass.
This is a quality Blue Favrile Bowl that is in a shape that is not commonly found like the Queen Pattern. These style bowls command much stronger prices because they are rarer. I would say this bowl was made at the turn of the century circa 1900-1920.
