For sale is a beautiful piece of art glass made by The Steuben Glass Company of Corning, New York. The item is a footed Grecian urn vase and it is done in Frederick Carder's very desirable Celeste Blue style of art glass. The vase has some size to it as it stands 7 1/16" tall and is 6" in diameter. The foot has a diameter of 3 1/2".
The vase displays that classic round footed Grecian urn shape and it has an outstanding transparent Celeste blue glass in color. The blue is very uniform throughout. The foot area looks darker because of the foot being applied to the body and in the area where it meets the body the glass is thicker.
The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. There are normal age wear scratches on the underside bottom but nothing obtrusive. There is no major or even minor scratches in the exterior body of the vase. There are a few typical small air bubbles and inclusions (small pieces of sand trapped inside). There is a counter sunk polished pontil. The finishing sign of a quality piece of art glass. The vase is not signed and more than likely had a paper label at one time. This is a documented shape in the Steuben Glass catalog. It is known as shape number "938".
This is truly an excellent example and of investment quality. Those of you whom collect Steuben Celeste Blue vase will surely welcome this wonderful vase into your collection. I'm quite sure the buyer will be happy for many years with their purchase. This piece was made Circa 1905-1920 during the Frederick Carder years.
