For sale is a nice piece of pottery made by the Roseville Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The pattern is called "Zephyr Lily" and the shape is a tall flaring double handled vase. The vase has some size as it measures 9 1/2" tall and is 6" in diameter at the bottom foot. The top opening has a diameter of 5".The vase depicts two tall lilies with slender stems and leaves in the background on the front side and one tall lily on the back. The flowers and leaves are done in raised relief. The background glaze is blended from deep teal green to a complimentary jade green. One flower on the front is glazed in a creamy yellow color with brown pistils. The other one is a rosy salmon pink also with brown pistils. The flower on the back is glazed in yellow. There are 2 applied handles that start at the bottom round foot and rises up only a short distance attaching itself to the lower body of the vessel. This form is desirable and shows minimal signs of use. The inside is very clean!!
The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks or chips. There is crazing upon close inspection and is quite common with this color glaze. The piece is signed with the raised relief mark of Roseville U.S.A. 136-9". There is also a letter W and the number 75 written in black grease pencil. These are all most likely the finishers marks. Purchase with confidence as this would be an excellent addition to one's art pottery collection especially that of Roseville Zephyr Lily.
This vase was made circa 1946.
