For sale is a wonderful arts and crafts hand hammered copper vase made by Dirk Van Erp of San Francisco, California. The vase has some size to it as it stands 8 1/8" tall and is 5 1/4" at the shoulder. The top opening has a diameter of 3 1/2" and the bottom is 3 3/8" in diameter.

The vase displays a classic tapered shoulder form with a raised neck and large top opening to receive flower. The vase has a nice craftsman brown patina with areas of original red patina showing. This red is on top of the brown patina on one side and you can see remnants under bright flashlight. This vase was originally red and from use and the wiping it down when cleaned from use most of the red is gone. The hand hammered small molecules are plentiful and cover the entire vase. You can see the dovetailed seam on one side of the vase clearly. This vase was more than likely used to hold flowers or a plant.

This vase is considered to be in very good condition to excellent condition as there are no cracks, major dents or dings to the metal. The vase does show signs of use as much of the exterior patina has worn off showing a small area of the red patina. The top opening is not perfectly round and there is a small indent in the shoulder area and this is considered minor. The vase is signed on the underside bottom with the impressed "San Francisco Dirk Van Erp" open box windmill cipher mark.

This is a quality piece of hand hammered copper ware by one of the foremost copper-smiths of our time You can date this vase by the impressed San Francisco mark. This vase was made circa 1915-1929.
