For sale is a wonderful arts and crafts shaped vessel made by The Grueby Pottery Company of Boston, Ma. The vase is called "Tapered Ringed Bud Vase" and it is done in a Grueby's signature matte green glaze The vase is a nice cabinet size as it stands 6 3/4" tall and is 3 3/4" in diameter at the bottom. The top hole is 1 13/16" in diameter outside measurement.
The vase has a tapered shape. It starts out with a wide base and tapers in to a very narrow top. The top has a small opening to put flowers. This shape resembles a beaker shape. This Grueby vase displays a beautiful deep matte green glaze that is thin at the top. It then graduates down to a medium green and then onto a very deep rich green at the bottom. You can see the mottling in the green glaze with it being more pronounced in the middle.
This vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips or dings. It is signed with the horizontal impressed mark which reads "GRUEBY" somewhat obscured by the bottom glaze on one line and "BOSTON, MASS" just underneath it. I would say this is a later mark and this vase was made circa 1907-1911.
This is wonderful piece of art pottery is done in a beautiful matte green glaze. I'm quite sure the buyer will be very pleased with their purchase. This is truly a unique example.
