For sale is a splendid art pottery vase made by The Hampshire Pottery Company of Keene, NH. The vase is done in Hampshire Pottery's famous matte cucumber green glaze. The vase is a nice cabinet size as it stands 6" tall and has a diameter of approximately 5 1/2" top shoulder measurement.

The vase displays an ovoid shape with a wide top opening to receive flowers. It has a deep cucumber green glaze gives this piece that organic Arts and Crafts look. It has 5 embossed Poppy Buds on long stems that rise up from the bottom and just barely touches the top opening. Separating these buds are w vertical embossed leaves with a saw tooth edge on each side of the stems with their stems connecting on the bottom. This glaze is extremely similar to Grueby and Weller glazes I have had in the past.

The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The vase is extremely clean both inside and out. It shows minimal signs of use. The vase is signed with the impressed "Hampshire Pottery" mark as well as its mold number "64" which is also impressed . This piece also carries the M in a circle mark which was used from 1904-1914 during Cadmon Robertson's tenure. This mark was used to honor his wife "Emoretta", she was the sister to the founder James Scollay Taft.

This will make a wonderful addition to any matte green collection of Art Pottery and would look great on that Stickley Mission Arts and Crafts bookcase. I have collected Hampshire Pottery for some 38+ years. I have only had a few of these through the years. I'm quite sure the buyer will be very pleased with their purchase. This vase was made circa 1904-1914.

Hampshire Pottery started producing Matte Glazes in 1891. This was 7 years earlier than their main competitor Grueby Faience of Boston, Mass. Hampshire Pottery resembles the style of Grueby but were much more affordable as they were mold made pieces as opposed to hand thrown.
