For sale is a lovely blue iridescent piece of art glass made by Tiffany Studios, New York. This style of Tiffany is called a looped ringed handled nappy. I have only seen a handful of these in blue through the years. The nappy is a nice cabinet size as it stands 2 3/4" tall, 5" wide, and 3 5/8" deep. The bottom round foot has a diameter of 2".
The nappy displays a triangular shape that has an applied looped handle with a vertical tab rising straight up from the loop for the thumb to hold when pouring. The piece is similar to a gravy boat shape in appearance. The nappy sits on a low profile round foot. The iridescence is just outstanding as you can see beautiful Peacock blue iridescence on the interior of the bowl. The outside has a very strong blue with gold overtones iridescence with the backside by the looped handle showing an electric blue purple iridescence.
This Tiffany Blue Favrile nappy is in excellent to mint condition. I cannot find anything wrong with it. There isn't even scratches or iridescence loss to the piece. It appears to have never been used and only sat in a cabinet most if not all of its life. The nappy displays a counter sunk polished pontil, the finishing sign of a quality piece of hand blown art glass. The salt is signed with the etched "L.C.T." along the underside bottom edge. There are also the numbers "1434" lightly etched along the interior of the center pontil. These numbers are more than likely a work or special order number or even a shape number. I see similar numbers lightly etched on many Favrile pieces with the ruffled salts have a 210 number. Thus making me also think it could be a shape number.
This is a must own for those who collect Tiffany Blue Favrile. If you are looking for a nappy to add to your collection that is truly MINT in a outstanding color, look no further. This piece was made circa 1900-1915.
