Murano,

$125.00

For sale is a beautiful art glass paperweight made in the region of Murano, Italy. This decoration on this paperweight is called Millefiore. This paperweight stands approximately 2 1/8" tall and is 2 15/16" in diameter.

The paperweight displays a very beautiful pattern of multicolored periwinkle style flowers. This is very similar to standard style millefiore however it is actually spaced multi-petaled, multi-colored flowers on a green background. There are seven groups of flower clusters with one being in the center and the other six that are spaced like petals. They are separated by a the green background as well as an air bubble located at the top edge of each flower cluster and also at the bottom edge. This is quite a sophisticated pattern to master.

The paperweight vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. There are some scratches along the bottom and is typical of normal wear. There are a few small surface inclusions that I have inspected under a jewelers loop to make sure they are not scratches. The piece is not signed but there is no doubt that this piece was made in Murano, Italy. It originally had a blue foil label that evidently has been removed by a previous owner. You can tell this piece was blown as the pontil scar has been polished smoothed and even.

This is a really nice Murano art glass paperweight. If you looking for a pleasing pattern that was executed with precision during the mid century look no further. I feel the buyer will be delighted with their purchase. This paperweight was made, circa 1950-1965.
