For sale is a hard to find desk set item made by Tiffany Studios, New York. The item is a "Letter Opener" and it is done in one of Tiffany's most desirable desk set patterns known as "Pine Needle". The letter opener is 9 5/16" wide by 1/4" tall and 1 3/16" deep at its deepest part on the handle.

The letter opener displays a wonderful acid etched pattern of pine needles. There is green Favrile opalescent slag glass in the handle. The patina is the most desirable Craftsman brown. The letter opener is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips of dings to glass. The metal shows minor wear with a few small dings. When this item is found the glass inside the overlay is almost always broken or cracked. I am happy to report there is NO damage whatsoever.

The letter opener is properly signed with the impressed "Tiffany Stvdios New York" along with its pattern number "969" mark. The letter "v" in Studios denotes this as an earlier mark. Truly a quality find in excellent condition. Tiffany started a standard numbering system with his desk set pieces. They were usually impressed with a 3 digit number and this was done after 1902. Since this does have a 3 digit number and the letter "v" in Studios I would guess this to have been made early, circa 1902-1905.
