For sale is a splendid arts and crafts style bowl made by The Zanesville Stoneware Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The bowl is done in the deep matte green glaze and the shape is what we call a low centerpiece or bulb bowl. The bowl is rather large as it stands 2 1/8" tall and is 9 3/4" in diameter.

The bowl depicts a low profile shape with a rolled shoulder that sits on 3 feet. This matte green glaze is looks great in the Arts and Crafts decorating scheme. This matte green has a glaze extremely similar to Weller's Bedford Matt Green and somewhat similar to Hampshire Pottery's cucumber matte green glaze. The glaze is thick and thin and shows that handcrafted look.

The bowl is considered to be in very good condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. The only issues is a few glaze pops around the bowl which is common with many Zanesville Stoneware pieces. There is a small area on the lip that shows some glaze miss and there is a line in the glaze on the underside bottom. This cannot be seen when displayed. The inside interior shows minor wear. The bowl is not signed but it has a number 9 impressed into the bottom and suspect this is known as the 9" size because the catalogue shows it as shape number 207. Zanesville Pottery has a beige sandy colored bottom as you can see in one of the feet. I guarantee this to be an original Zanesville Pottery shape number 207 as shown in their catalogue pages.

This is a wonderful form and would look just fine in any early matte green art pottery collection. I'm sure it would look just fine on that Stickley bookcase. This vase was made in the early 1900's circa 1910-1920.
