For sale is a lovely teacup and saucer set made by Aynsley of Staffordshire, England. The pattern is known as "Shamrock" and is quite whimsical. The cup measures 2 3/4" tall at the handles highest measurement. The actual cup measures 2 5/8" tall and 3 7/16" wide at the rim of the cup. The footed base measures 1 7/8" wide. The saucer is 13/16" tall and is 5 1/2" in diameter. The overall height is approximately 2 7/8" tall.

The teacup and saucer display an all over pattern of shamrocks or clovers in groups of 1, 2 and 3 sets of clovers. They are scattered on the exterior of the cup as well as the face side of the saucer. There is also a grouping of a few more on the interior of the cup that would become visible to the person enjoying their cup of tea if they are right handed as they are only on one side of the interior. The handle, rim and base of the foot are accented with 24k gold trim. The saucer also has gold trim around the edge of it. The shape of the cup is know as a crocus shape and there is evenly spaced vertical ribbing to the cup and also the saucer.

Aynsley has a long, rich history and reputation for being makers of fine china. It was often used as wedding gifts and other special occasions to present some of this companies wares. Both Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Diana were noted for liking their wares.

The teacup and saucer are both in mint to excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. There is even a foil label on the interior of the cup which means that it has never been used. I do not see any surface scratches or wear to the gold trim on neither piece. They are both signed in green with the stamp "AYNSLEY" in a ribbon style block with the logo EST.1775 along with the crown above the ribbon. Underneath that reads "MADE IN ENGLAND" and finally " FINE ENGLISH BONE CHINA". This cup and saucer set were made circa 1960-1970.
