For sale is a lovely teacup, saucer and bread plate set made by Royal Albert of Longton, England. The pattern is known as "Concerto" and is absolutely beautiful. The cup measures 3 3/16" tall at the handles highest measurement. The actual cup measures 2 7/8" tall and 3 1/2" wide at the rim of the cup. The footed base measures 1 7/8" wide. The saucer is 15/16" tall and is 5 1/2" in diameter. The bread plate measures 5/8" tall and is 7" in diameter.
The "Concerto " pattern consists of roses and dogwood spray in full bloom. The flowers are in clusters that encircle the outer edge of both the saucer and the bread plate. The pattern alternates from a larger bouquet full with detailed leaf sprays and blossoms to a smaller cluster. The blossoms are set on black background details and the edge of both plate and saucer is finished with a generous gold rim accent. This is a 4 repeat design on the bread plate and a 3 repeat on the saucer. The tea cup is adorned with the same large bouquet cluster on both the front and back of the cup. There is a smaller bouquet on the exterior opposing the handle as well as one on the interior for the right handed tea drinker. The handle, rim and base of the foot are accented with 24k gold trim. The shape of the cup is know as "Montrose" and has a very delicate handle.
Royal Albert has a history and reputation for being able to cater to people from all walks of life, from modest to the most exquisite taste. Many of their early wares were commemorative to the Royal family. The founder, Thomas Wild, had a love for flowers and cottage gardens which inspired many of the patterns. Royal Albert is also known for their "Flower of the Month" series.
The teacup, saucer and bread plate are in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. There is a surface scratch on the bottom of the tea cup and saucer that is on the signature. This does not detract from the piece and is only mentioned for accuracy. The pieces are signed "Royal Albert" Bone China, ENGLAND Concerto C1991 ROYAL ALBERT LTD. There is also a little rose bouquet cluster above the signature which matches the floral pattern on the front. This cup, saucer and bread plate set were made circa 1991.
