For sale is a very nice vase made by The Weller Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The vase is from Weller's highly collected and very desirable "Greora" line of art pottery. The vase has some size as it measures 7 15/16" tall and is 6 3/8" in diameter outside handles measurements. The foot has a diameter of 3 1/8".
The vase displays a classic Grecian Urn shape with applied triangular handles with tails. It has an outstanding mottled matte Hunter green glaze over a matte copper to black glazed body that is very similar to Weller's Coppertone Line. The upper part of the vessel has the copper with the lower showing the black in the background. This is a wonderful arts and crafts shape with an even better glaze.
The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The vase is signed with the "Weller Pottery" incised script signature cypher along with the number 12 in a green glaze. This was more than likely the finishers mark. I have seen this same number on many, many pieces of Weller Coppertone in the past.
Those of you who collect Greora and are looking to add an excellent example to their collection do not let this one slip by. This vase is an very good example of this form and glaze. This vase was made circa 1931-1935.
