For sale is a hard to find art glass shade made by The Steuben Glass Company of Corning, NY. This shade is done in Steuben's highly sought after Gold Aurene style of art glass. The shade is large as it measures approximately 5 9/16" tall and is 6 1/8" in diameter. The top opening measures approximately 3 11/16" in diameter.
This shade displays a brilliant Gold Aurene iridescent that rivaled Tiffany's Gold Favrile style of glass. This shade is brilliant in color as you can see wonderful vivid hues of strong fuchsia and some platinum blues surrounding the shade. This shade has vertical ribbing and a Poppy Flower shade shape with a ruffled border. There are 24 of theses vertical ribs that rise up from the bottom edge and work their way to the top ruffled area. Steuben made this style of shade for early gas and oil burning lamps as well as newel post lights.
This shade is considered to be in very good to excellent condition. The bottom or fitter side of the shade has a rolled edge with some imperfections in the making. There are a few shallow nicks but nothing too obtrusive in this area. This cannot be seen when mounted and is considered insignificant. This shade is not signed but there is no doubt as to whom made this shade. It is a well documented shape and the Gold Aurene brilliance is a dead give away.
These type shades rarely come up for sale. This shade was made circa 1905-1915.
