For sale is a wonderful bronze compote made by Carl Sorensen of Philadelphia, Pa. A well known figure in the Arts and Crafts movement at the turn of the century, Carl Sorensen later went on to work as a designer for Tiffany Studios, New York and Louis Comfort Tiffany. The compote is a nice cabinet size as it stands 3 1/4" tall and has a diameter of just under 6 11/16".

The compote has its typical flaring bowl shape mounted on a round foot. At the base of the bowl is a decorative leaf and berry break that connects to this round foot. There are 5 concentric rings that circle the exterior edge of the compote. There are 3 in an aged brass color and 2 in a green patina. Two of the aged brass are the same width with the other 3 being different thickness. This gives this compote that Art Deco flavor. The green patina is very vibrant and extremely well executed. The interior of the compote has a lighter shade of the deep mottled green from use. The underside bottom of the vase even shows this wonderful deep rich patina.

This compote is considered to be in very good condition to excellent condition as there are no cracks or dings to the metal. The top lip is nice and even with 1 area showing a little bit of a wave. The compote does show minor signs of use on the interior bottom patina and some patina wear along the edge of the round foot. Other than this typical wear it is an excellent example. The compote is signed on the underside bottom. It has the script impressed signature mark "Carl Sorensen" along with the "CS Bronze" impressed emblem.

Purchase with confidence as this compote will enhance any Arts and Crafts, Mission style decor. It will look outstanding on that Stickley bookcase and will work just wonderful with that matte green art pottery collection. This vase was made circa 1925-1930.
