Heintz,

$120.00

For sale is a wonderful match safe made by The Art Metal Shop of Buffalo, NY founded by Otto Heintz. The match safe measures 1 1/8" tall and 2 7/16" long. The depth of the piece measures 1 1/2".

The match safe or match box holder is footed with applied round ball feet. It is open at each end to slide in a small box of wooden matches with ease. The sides of the piece are slotted to expose the striking area on the box of matches. The top of the box is decorated with silver overlay accentuating its rectangular shape. Further decoration is done in an Arts and Crafts design of stylized Greek Keys in opposing corners. This is on top of Heintz's signature brown patina.

The piece is unsigned but there is no mistake in the technique and quality this company produced. The patina is a good as a signature. The match safe is in very good to excellent condition as there are no major scratches in the patina or metal. There is minor wear to the silver overlay which is typical of a piece that was used frequently. There is a very small dent on the underside of the box which is being mentioned for cannot be seen when displayed. There is some dullness to the top of the box but no discoloration on the patina. This piece was made circa 1910-1920.
