Phoenix

$1,195.00

For sale is a piece of early American art glass that was made by The Phoenix Glass Company of Monaca, Pa. It is a satin Mother-of-Pearl vase which was very popular back in the Victorian era. This pattern was originally called "Raindrops". It is quite large as it stands an impressive 14" tall and is 6 1/4" in diameter at the bulge. The bottom measures 3 3/8" in diameter.

The vase has a beautiful satin matte white background that starts at the base and graduates to a beautiful sky or baby blue at the top. The baby blue starts at the shoulder or beginning of the corseted elongated neck and extends to the slightly flared upper lip. There are mother of pearl oval drops that are on the outer surface of the vase and become exaggerated and much longer throughout the neck area. These ovals are done in a symmetrical fashion and were done by a very experienced glass blower. All of this decor is over a white cased body. The "Raindrops" pattern is considered to be very rare. One thing for sure is, this is a very rare and impressive vase in form, size and pattern technique of blown glass from the Victorian era.

The vase is in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks or dings. The piece is unsigned however it is guaranteed to be original Phoenix Glass and from the Victorian period. It has a nice ground counter sunk polished pontil, the finishing sign of a quality piece of art glass. This vase was made circa 1880-1885.
