Zsolnay,

$275.00

For sale is a very nice piece of art pottery made by the Zsolnay factory in Pecs, Hungary. The form is a squat vase and it measures approximately 4 1/8" tall and is 6 1/2" in diameter at its' widest point from the outer ribs. The outer measurement of the top rim is 5" wide and the base measures 3 5/16" in diameter.

The vase displays a beautiful blue iridescence with some gold overtones. This style of glaze is known as "Eosin". The vase has a squat shape with vertical lobes that rise up and come in again before flaring out to a ruffled edge border. The edge of the ruffles you can see gold iridescence. These lobes resemble the ribbing in a squat pumpkin or gourd as it has a very organic shape.

The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. There are no excuses for this piece. The piece is signed with the oval ZSOLNAY HUNGARY Five Church 1868 pecs hand painted signature stamp. You can date this piece based on its signature as the company has a wrong start date. They actually started in 1853. They used this wrong start mark from 1968-1996. I feel this piece is early in the dating this because you never find this form in blue. I would say this was made circa 1969-1972.

This is a wonderful piece of Art Nouveau style pottery made by a master potter. I'm sure the buyer of this piece will not be disappointed.
