For sale is a beautiful piece of hand blown art glass made in the Art Nouveau style by glass master Charles Lotton of Crete, Illinois. He was born in 1935 and is still blowing glass today. The vase is a nice cabinet size as it stands 5 5/8" tall and is 5 3/4" in diameter at its widest point. The foot has a diameter of 2".The vase displays a volcano shape with a decoration of split leaves rising up from the bottom of the vessel. This decoration somewhat resembles flames from a fire and if you follow them around the vase there are not two that are the same. The iridescence is just outstanding as you can see deep fuchsia's and gold's on the leaves themselves. The leaves are resting on a brilliant blue purple iridescent textured background finish that emits such a metallic look, yet it is glass. There is no doubt this vase was blown by an expert glass blower that is as good as any Tiffany Favrile glass blower of the day. This vase has the same quality as his predecessors Tiffany, Quezal and Steuben as well as Loetz.
The vase is in excellent condition as there are absolutely no issues to report. It displays a polished flat bottom so it sits level in the cabinet. It is signed on the bottom in etched script that reads "Charles Lotton 1995".
This vase is of contemporary make and it is "Investment Quality". Charles Lotton is a self taught glass artist with tremendous skills. His work is in many museums worldwide and he is still blowing glass today at the age of 82. He started his studio in his backyard back in 1970. This is a quality piece of American art glass and I'm sure even the collector of the early manufacturers will not be disappointed with their purchase.
