Steuben Gold Aurene Ruffled Salt, Outstanding Iridescence, Highly Reflective~~~

Steuben

$375.00

For sale is a wonderful piece of art glass made by The Steuben Glass Company of Corning, New York. The item is a "Ruffled Salt" and it is done in Frederick Carder's most desirable Gold Aurene glass. The salt is a nice cabinet size as it stands 1 1/4" tall and is 3" in diameter at its widest point.

The salt depicts a squat round shape with with vertical ribbing. The body rolls out and is folded in at the top.It has an irregular or ruffled border. This made for easy pouring of the salt. It is decorated in one of Frederick Carder's favorite types of glass known as Gold Aurene. The Gold Aurene is just outstanding as it is brilliant and highly reflective. You can see vivid hues of fuchsia and some platinum blues. The texture of the glass is silky smooth to the touch and feels much like the texture of Steuben's Verre de Soie glass which was also known as "Glass of Silk".

The salt is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. There are no excuses for this pieces what so ever. It has such minor wear for its age and is considered the finest quality for a collection or museum. The salt displays a counter sunk polished pontil. This is the finishing sign of a quality piece of hand blown art glass. The salt is signed on the bottom with etched "Steuben Aurene" signature mark along with its shape number "564".

This is known as shape number "564" in the Steuben Club website of shapes. I have attached a link below for you to view this so you can see that this was made by The Steuben Glass Company of Corning, NY. Steuben ruffled salts are HTF and you only see these online but a few times a year if you are lucky. You commonly see the Tiffany Ruffled salts but not the Steuben ones as they are considered much rarer. Those of you who collect Steuben Gold Aurene will surely welcome this wonderful salt into your collection. I'm quite sure the buyer will be very pleased for many years with their purchase. I can date this based on the signature mark this cabinet vase was made circa 1917-1925.
