For sale is a beautiful art glass vase made by The Quezal Art Glass and Decorating Company of Maspeth (Queens), Long Island New York. The item is the highly desired floriform vase. The vase is a nice cabinet size as it stands 7 1/8" and the top opening is 3 1/2" in diameter at its widest point. The foot has a diameter of 2 7/8".

The vase has a nice floriform (flower form) shape. The vase starts out with a round foot with the wide stem raising up and tapering out to a high shoulder. It then comes in and then it flares out with 3 petals bent up from the rim. This form shows 3 petals up and 3 petals down or a 6 petal flower. It is decorated with an iridescent green feather over a gold feather pull. These pulls are set against a calcite white body. The execution is about as perfect as you can get. Looking into the vase you also see this gold iridescence. The foot of the vase is even decorated with a gold feather in between the green feather.

The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. This vase is extremely clean and shows minimal signs of use. There is NO calcium deposits inside the vase what so ever. This vase has a beautiful polished counter sunk pontil. It is signed on the bottom with the acid etched "Quezal" cipher along with the letter "P" and the number "16".

Martin Bach Sr. was the founder of Quezal. He worked for L.C.T. Tiffany Studios from 1892-1902. The quality of his glass was as good as Tiffany, Steuben and Loetz. The Quezal Art Glass and Decorating Co was in business from 1902-1924. Quezal Art Glass pieces rarely come up in today's market. They were more noted for their art glass shades they produced by the tens of thousands. It appears that the collectors do not want to let vases go. I'm quite sure the buyer will be very pleased with their purchase.

It is my belief that Quezal used a Lettering System similar to L.C. T. Tiffany Favrile. Tiffany used a prefix letter and a suffix letter before a number. Since Quezal started much later than Tiffany is lettering system stood by a single letter. Since Quezal started producing glass in 1902 it is my belief that they used the letter "A" for this year. In 1903 was the letter 'B" and so on. Since mine has the letter "P" it is my belief that this vase was made circa 1917.
