For sale is a lovely pair of candlesticks made by the Roseville Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The pattern is known as "Bleeding Heart". The candlesticks measure 4 3/4" tall and are 4 1/4" wide at the base. The candlesticks depicts a very pleasing pattern that consists of string of Bleeding Heart flowers that come out of the leaves at the base of the handle. This pattern is on the bottom of the candlesticks and is on both sides. The flowers are a salmon rose color with yellow points and sage green leaves. This pattern is set against a robins eggs blue background glaze. The raise stick portion has a star top with 2 applied 1/2 round handles applied to the base and rising up to the neck of the candlestick.
The candlesticks are in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. They are both signed with the raised relief Roseville U.S.A. signature along with the shape number 1139-4 1/2". Both of the candlesticks have an incised 13 and the number 7 written in a blue grease pencil. I believe these to be the finishers marks and proof that these 2 candlesticks have always been together.
These 2 candlesticks are an example of the pattern and form. These are the larger taller ones in a most desirable glaze. These candlesticks were made circa 1940.
