Salamandra

$395.00

For sale is a lovely art glass vase made by Salamandra Art Glass of Portsmouth, NH. The vase is a nice cabinet size as it stands 5 5/8" tall and is 3 7/8" in diameter at its widest point.

The vase has a classic swollen shape and is decorated with expertise. The vase has a decorated pattern that resembles that of Reactive Glass made by L.C.T. Tiffany Favrile at the turn of the century. You can see swirls of mustard brown with mauve in between rising up to the middle. It continues to the top with it becoming more translucent and showing new colors as well. The top portion has more of a blue purple color continuing to the flared out and up top tip.

The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips, or dings. The piece is signed along the bottom outside edge at the bottom of the vase. The engraved signature is very hard to read but with a magnifying glass it reads "Salmandra Glass 7/78. The means this piece was made in July of 1978. This is one of Salmandra's Glass earlier works. They didn't start their Studio until 1975.

This is one of Salmandra's Glass earlier works. It was made only 3 years after they started. Their studio started blowing glass in 1975. Salmandra Art Glass was widely known for their Glass Rondels. The 2 partners that formed this Studio were George Cirocco and David Bellantone. George was actually apprenticed by David Bellantone and Todd Phillips back in 1975. I met David when they first got started in the mid to late 70's. I used to buy Rondels from him and some vases. They sold President Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter. He was President from (1977-1981). They sold some of their Rondels that hung in the White House back in late 1970's. They didn't blow a lot of vases so they are rather hard to find. Their studio closed in 1991. In 1996 George Cirocco re-opened the studio in Dover, NH. He blew glass for another 13 years. They are now out of business as he closed that studio on April 26th, 2009.
