Kosta

$250.00

For sale is a lovely piece of art glass made by Kosta Boda of Glasbruck, Sweden. The item is a "Pillow Vase" and it has a Sailing theme engraved into the clear crystal glass. The vase stands 4 9/16" tall and is 4 11/16" wide and 2 7/8" deep. The piece is quite heavy for its size as it weighs 2 lbs 2 ozs.

The vase displays a clear crystal pillow shaped form with a wheel etched man sailing a small sailboat. There are wheel cut horizontal lines that simulate waves on a lake or ocean. This engraving is done on one side and the back side remains clear. The bottom has a clear green staining the size of a half dollar encased in the crystal. This is in the area of the countersunk polished pontil. This pontil is the finishing sign of a quality piece of art glass.

The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks or chips. There is a tiny flea nick along bottom edge and this is pictured. It is very hard to see and if one wished it can easily be polished out and is considered insignificant. There are minor scratches on the underside bottom and is typical of normal age use.

The vase is signed inside the counter sunk pontil "Kosta LG 235" cipher mark. This vase was designed by Vicke Lindstrand and made circa 1950-1973. This is a nice example of a Kosta crystal pillow vase. I believe there are 2 sizes to this pillow vase with this one being the smaller one.
