For sale is a lovely teacup and saucer made by Royal Albert of Longton, England. The pattern is known as "Violet" from the "Springtime Series" which was a set of six different flowers. The cup measures 2 3/4" tall and 3 3/16" wide at the rim of the cup. The handle measures 3 1/16" at the highest point. The footed base measures 1 7/8" wide. The saucer is 15/16" tall and is 5 1/2" in diameter.
The "Violet" pattern depicts 4 lovely bouquets of violets with foliage surrounding the exterior of the cup. The interior of the cup has a smaller cluster of violets for the right handed tea drinker to enjoy. The saucer has 6 clusters of violets to complete the look. This is a darling set that resonates Spring. The shape of the cup is known as a Montrose shape. The rim, foot and handle are trimmed with gold as well as the scalloped edge of the saucer.
Royal Albert has a history and reputation for being able to cater to people from all walks of life, from modest to the most exquisite taste. Many of their early wares were commemorative to the Royal family. The founder, Thomas Wild, had a love for flowers which inspired many of the patterns.
The teacup and saucer are in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. The pieces are signed "Royal Albert, Bone China, England, Springtime Series, Violet". This cup was made circa 1970's to 1980's.
