For sale is a lovely teacup and saucer made by Royal Albert of Longton, England. The pattern is known as "Corn-Cockle" and is adorable. The cup measures 2 1/4" tall and 3 1/16" wide at the rim of the cup. The footed base measures 1 5/8" wide. The saucer is 3/4" tall and is 4 15/16" in diameter.
The "Corn-Cockle" pattern depicts a band of yellow flowers at the upper portion of the Malverne shaped cup. The flower centers are vibrant orange that are hand painted and it gives you the feeling of a bright, sunny day. The cup is accented with 24k gold on the rim, foot and handle. The saucer is decorated with the same band of yellow blossoms.
Royal Albert has a history and reputation for being able to cater to people from all walks of life, from modest to the most exquisite taste. Many of their early wares were commemorative to the Royal family. The founder, Thomas Wild, had a love for flowers and cottage gardens which inspired many of the patterns. Royal Albert is also known for their "Flower of the Month" series.
The teacup, saucer and bread plate are in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings.The pieces are signed "Corn-Cockle, Royal Albert Crown China, England". The cup is also marked 1936 which is the time frame of this charming pattern according to the mark.
