For sale is a very lovely art pottery vase made by The Roseville Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The design is the ever popular, "Snowberry" pattern. It is done in the most sought after blue background glaze. The vase is rather large as it stands 8 5/16" tall and is 6 1/2" in diameter outside handle measurements.
The vase has that classic Greek urn shape with a round foot. The vase depicts very pleasing clusters of white berries with a handful of detained green leaves on brown winding branches flowing from the top towards the bottom. This is set against a background glaze that bleeds from a lighter blue to a medium blue in the middle and a little bit deeper blue towards the top. There are buttress shaped styled handles that resembles ears. This shape has also been called a trophy vase shape.
This vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. There is some very minor crazing and this seem to be typical with this glaze. The vase is signed on the bottom with the "Roseville U.S.A." raised relief cipher mark along with the mold number "1UR-8" also in raised relief. The "UR" stands for Urn. There is also a incised "W" and a letter "L" written in blue glaze. More than likely these are the finishers numbers.
This is truly a lovely vase in a very desirable glaze color. The vase was made circa 1947, just after World War II.
