Mount

$250.00

For sale is a lovely piece of art glass that was most likely made by The Mount Washington Glass Company of New Bedford, Mass. The item is a "Celery" vase and it is done in a beautiful Amberina style of art glass. This vase measures 5 1/2" tall and the top has a diameter of approximately 4 5/16" across the widest part of the ruffles. The bottom foot has a diameter of 3".

The vase displays an "Inverted Thumbprint" pattern that is able to be felt on the interior of the vessel. There are 5 rows of this pattern and The vase is cylindrical up to the neck and opens up to a spectacular crimped 4 corner edge vase. The vase is a light fuchsia cranberry that bleeds down to a light amber. It is just a stunning example of this highly collected glass. The crimped edged is done with excellent precision on a fairly thin piece of glass.

The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks or dings. The vase is unsigned but has a countersunk polished pontil which signifies the finishing mark of a quality piece of art glass. There is little doubt that this was made by The Mount Washington/Pairpoint Glass Company as the hand made characteristics of the glass was a signature trademark. The two companies merged in 1894 and the company never mass produced its wares. This one is in exceptional condition for its age and is considered quite rare. We were unable to document this exact form but were able to document the top edge treatment to attribute it to Mount Washington Glass/Pairpoint Glass Company. This vase was made circa 1880-1899.
