For sale is a wonderful arts and crafts Tiffany style leaded glass shade on a square Turtleback lamp base. The arts and crafts lamp base was made for Meyda Tiffany. The table lamp is a nice desk or end table size as it stands 19 3/4" tall to the top of the finial. The shade has a diameter of 16 3/4" and is 10 1/2" to top of the finial off the base. The bottom rim measures 16 1/4" where it rests on the 4 arm support from the base.
The shade is done in the arts and crafts tradition and is considered a geometric pattern. The background glass is a avocado green with a red green opalescent band at the bottom and the background glass surrounding the Turtleback tiles. The shade has oval shaped translucent green Turtleback tiles. There are 18 of these glass tiles. The shade sits on a very heavy zinc metal reproduction Tiffany Studios Turtleback base. The shade has 3 areas on the inside in which there was reinforcement wire added to the leaded line. Tiffany Studios did this in many of their lamps as well for structural support.
The base has a cluster with 3 pull chain sockets that can hold up to 60 watts each. The oval Turtleback tiles are a translucent green and match the tiles in the shade. The base has a light inside that also lights the tiles in the base as well as the shade above. The patina on both the shade and base are done in an antique brown.
The base and the shade are considered to be in excellent condition. There are no cracks to any of the Turtleback tiles or background glass in the shade. The base is also in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks chips or dings as well. The shade and base are not signed but the base retains its underwriter laboratory label affixed to the bottom. This style of Turtleback lamp was made exclusively for Meyda Tiffany back in the 2002-2006 time frame. Since then this lamp has been retired.
This is a quality reproduction copy of Tiffany Studios Turtleback Table lamp. The shade and base are quite heavy as they weigh 26 pounds before packing. The tiles are made of glass and the base is made of a heavy white metal, not the resin ones on the market today. This is a big reason why the lamp weighs so much and cost more. Your cat will be hard pressed to knock this lamp over. This table lamp would look outstanding on any arts and crafts style end table or desk. It would look wonderful in a mission style decor as well. This lamp base was made circa 2002-2006.
