Loetz,

$450.00

For sale is a lovely vase made by Loetz Klostermuehle of Bohemia which is now the modern day Czech Republic. The pattern is called "Bronce Glatt" and the form is a double handled flower vase. The vase has some size as it stands stands 7 1/2" tall and has a diameter of 3 1/2" at its widest point at the bottom. The underside bottom has a diameter of 2 7/16" and the top has a diameter of 2" outside measurement.

The vase display a bulbous bottle form with a narrow neck and flared top lip with 2 applied handles. This vase has an olive or russet green color when held to the light. It has a very nice iridescence sheen when unlit that shows a purple/fuchsia iridescent color. There are two expertly attached handles that rise up above the waist, curl over and are attached just under the flared top lip. The bottoms of these 2 handles each have a rosette. The handles themselves have deep raised ribbing. The applied handles and prunts are very much the same as those on some of the Max Emmanuel commissioned pieces (series 346/340s, or Series II-600s). The feel and appearance of the this base glass resembles Steuben's Verre de Soie (Glass of Silk) glass and it wouldn't surprise me if Frederick Carder created his Verre de Soie from this Loetz Decor. Loetz was making this style of decor before Steuben was even in business.

The vase is considered to be in very good condition as there are no cracks, chips or dings. There is an area underneath one handle at the top that had a tail and the other one didn't. You can see an area where this came off. This is an imperfection and not damage. This vase does not have a countersunk polished pontil. Instead it has a very nice polished top lip. This is the finishing mark of a quality piece of Bohemian art glass.

Purchase with confidence as this is a very HTF form to find in Loetz's Bronce Glatt decor. This piece is early Loetz, circa 1895-1910.
