Fulper

$295.00

For sale is a wonderful Art and Crafts styled footed bowl made by The Fulper Pottery Company of Flemington, NJ. The bowl is done in one of Fulper Pottery's most attractive glaze combinations known as " Mahogany Flambe' ". The bowl is a nice cabinet size to it as it stands 1 7/8" tall and is 6 3/16" in diameter at the outside top measurement.

This bowl displays a round shape with 3 applied feet on the bottom. It has an outstanding mahogany brown drip glaze over a mustard matte. You can even see a little bit of blue or teal blue green in the under glaze. It appears that there were 3 different glazes to make this particular glaze. You can clearly see this looking inside the bowl. On the underside you can see a much lighter ivory to tan flambe' drip onto the mustard matte glaze. The bowl has a semi gloss glaze to it looking into the center. This is considered an early glaze combination.

This bowl is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The inside shows minor scratches in the bottom from use and is typical of a piece with this amount of age. The planter is marked on the underside bottom with Fulper's earliest ink stamp "Fulper" inside a rectangle signature mark. This was Fulper's earliest period and was know as the Vasekraft years. This mark was used from 1909-1916. This is known as shape number 401 in the Fulper Pottery Catalog and is simply described as a "Footed Bowl". It was available in 4 sizes, a 18, 10, 8 and a 6" version. This is the smallest of the 4.

This glaze combination used to be fairly common to find but I have seen very few examples in the past several years. It appears that the collectors are hanging on to these beauties. This is an excellent example of this form and glaze from Fulper. I'm quite sure the buyer will be very pleased with their purchase. This would look Great on that Stickley, Mission, Arts and Crafts style bookcase.
