$275.00

For sale is a lovely early American art glass pitcher that was made by Hobbs Brockunier of Wheeling, West Virginia of The Phoenix Glass Company of Monaca, PA. The pitcher is made of the ever popular Amberina style of art glass and the pattern is "Inverted Thumbprint". The pitcher is large as it measures 8 1/2" tall to the top of the handle and spout. It is approximately 7 1/2" in diameter from the widest part of the bulge to outer edge of the handle. The base of the pitcher measures 3" in diameter.

The pitcher is a nice full bulbous form with a clear Olive green reeded applied handle and triangular spout. The bulge and the neck of the vessel is done in the inverted thumbprint pattern. The lower body is a Amber with a Green hue. The upper portion or the neck of the vessel has a deep rich cranberry translucent glass that is quite appealing. There are a few air bubbles in the body of the pitcher and is typical of glass that is 100 years or older.

The pitcher is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. There is are some surface scratches on the underside of the pitcher which is a sign this was a used piece. It does not detract from the beauty of this piece. The pitcher is not signed but it does display a counter sunk polished pontil on the bottom. This is the finishing mark of a quality piece of art glass.

This piece was made circa 1875-1887.
