For sale is a lovely teacup, saucer and bread plate set made by Aynsley of Staffordshire, England. The pattern is known as "Bluebell Time" and is a delightful pattern. The cup measures 2 3/4" tall at the handles highest measurement. The actual cup measures 2 5/8" tall and 3 1/4" wide at the rim of the cup. The rim of the cup is scalloped in height. The base of the cup measures 1 13/16" wide. The saucer is 5/8" tall and is 5 13/16" in diameter.
The "Bluebell Time " pattern consists of a scenic meadow and trees with bluebell flowers in the foreground on the front of the cup. The flowers are representative of a meadow in full bloom, with pastel pinks, purples and blues in stylized blooms. There are some birch trees on the edge of the meadow. The interior of the cup has a tree branch adorning the interior of the cup for the right handed tea drinker to view. The pattern on the backside of the cup is a smaller scene of the meadow. The rim, foot and handle are trimmed with 24k gold. There is an embossed vertical leaf pattern on the cup as well as the saucer. The cup has 6 embossed leaves and the saucer has 8. The saucer has a complimentary scenic design that are the 3 scenes shown on the teacup.
Aynsley has a long, rich history and reputation for being makers of fine china. It was often used as wedding gifts and other special occasions to present some of this companies wares. Both Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Diana were noted for liking their wares.
The teacup and saucer are in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. The pieces are signed with the "Aynsley" ribbon logo in green with the crown above the ribbon and Est. 1775. Underneath the ribbon it reads "ENGLAND" BONE CHINA along with the number 27 on both the cup and saucer. The number 27 is a referral to the saucer and cup shape with embossed vertical leaves. This particular cup shape with the handle seems to be rare as I can't locate another one of these cups in this pattern with this shaped handle. The cup is hand signed in gold C389 in 24K gold. This set was made circa post 1939.
