For sale is a very desirable art pottery pattern to collect. It is made by The Roseville Pottery Company of Zanesville. Ohio. The item is a double handled vase and it is done in the highly desirable "Poppy" pattern. The vase is a nice cabinet stands as it stands 6 3/16" tall and is 4 1/2" in diameter at the top opening outside measurements. The foot has a diameter of 2 7/8".
This is a very pleasing pattern created by Roseville Pottery. The piece displays a raised coral to pink Poppy flower with green pod-like centers. These flowers are on each side of the vase. Both sides are accented with a buds and leaves. The flowers are set against a matte smooth coral to light pink background glaze. The lower part and between each flower is a very soft matte beige, light yellow background glaze. The stems tend to blend in with the background glaze but the leaves are done in a pleasing deep green.
The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. It is signed with the incised signature mark which reads, Roseville 866-6". There is also an incised 22 and blue grease pencil mark the letter D and a number 10 I believe.
This is an excellent example of Roseville's Poppy Pattern. The pattern is not commonly found and is considered somewhat hard to find in the northeast. The mold is crisp and it has very strong glaze colors. This vase is also very clean both inside and out. This leads me to believe it was enjoyed as a cabinet piece. I'm sure the buyer will be extremely pleased with their purchase.
This vase was made circa 1938.
