For sale is a lovely piece of art pottery made by the Roseville Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The pattern is called "Columbine" and the shape is a double handled jardiniere. This jardiniere has some size to it as it measures 4" tall and 7" in diameter at the shoulder. The inside opening measures approximately 4 3/8" wide at the rim outside measurements.
The vase displays a squat shape similar to a flying saucer. It has a large embossed Columbine flower in full bloom with three leaf clusters on long stems. The pattern is a little bit different on the opposite side but very close. There are angular handles to balance this squat shaped vessel. The background is glazed in a Robin's egg blue with a sage green leaves and beautiful yellow flowers. The top lip shows an irregular round ring shape.
The piece is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, or chips. The vase is quite clean and shows minimal signs of use. The piece is signed on the bottom in raised relief "Roseville U.S.A. 655-4" as well as the number 7 and number 1 written in a blue grease pencil. I believe these to be the finisher's marks. This is a delightful vintage piece of Roseville and would look quite lovely holding some freshly cut flowers. I'm quite sure the buyer will be well pleased with their purchase.
This vase was made circa 1941.
