For sale is a desk set item made by Tiffany Studios of New York. The item is a picture frame. The picture frame is done in the "Chinese" desk set pattern. The patina on the metal is the most desirable aged gold or dore' patina with a large acid etched texture. The frame measures 8 7/8" tall by 6 3/4" wide. The picture window area measures 3 7/8" wide by 5 1/2" tall from standing measurement.
The calendar displays an acid etched large snowflake aged gold patina with arts and crafts styled incised lines. This pattern is similar to the American Indian pattern by Tiffany Studios as it shows its strong arts and crafts influence. The frame is heavy and solid with geometric designs that were probably influenced from the Bronze Age. The hinge works wonderful and feels sturdy.
This picture frame is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, or dents to the frame. It comes with glass that has nibbles around the corners and I think was a replacement at some point. There are areas of dark spotting on the back side and is considered aging to the patina. It is signed on the backside of the frame with the impressed mark, "Tiffany Stvdios New York" along with the pattern number "1761" also impressed just underneath. Tiffany started using a 3 digit numbering system after 1902. Also the "v" in Studios denotes this as an earlier piece. Since this has a 4 digit number this picture frame was made circa 1902-1905. Those of you who are looking for a nice example of this frame will be well pleased with this purchase.
Picture frames are quite rare. They rarely come up for sale. Those decorating with arts and crafts, mission style with Stickley furniture will welcome this as an accessory in the home.
