For sale is a pen rack made by Tiffany Studios of New York, New York. The pen tray is done in the "Pine Needle" desk set pattern. The patina on the metal is the most desirable green/brown/red. The stained glass is the green white Favrile opalescent. The pen rack is a nice desk size as it stands 4 1/8" tall, 5 1/4" wide and 2 1/2" deep from lower rack to back foot of the stand.
This desk set item is called a Pen Rack. It displays an acid etched pine needle overlay pattern on green/white opalescent glass. It has 3 rows of looped holders to house 3 separate pens or pencils. The stands is supported with 2 Art Nouveau style legs with a small round ball on the ends. This is one of the harder to find desk set items that do not have any damage. The patina is very nice!
This Pen Rack is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings to the glass. The patina is about an 8 out of a 10 and shows minor wear. This Pen Rack is signed on the back bottom of the frame with the larger typeset impressed "Tiffany Studios New York" along with the model number "1003" mark. Tiffany started numbering his desk set items with a 3 digit number after 1902. Since his has a 4 digit mark I would say this was made circa 1910-1920.
I believe the Pine Needle Pattern to have been the first of the Fancy Goods Product lines made at Tiffany Studios. It is described as a Pen Rack in William Holland's book. Those of you who are looking for a very nice example of this Pen Rack in the Pine Needle pattern will be delighted with their purchase.
