For Sale is a wonderful piece of Art Pottery made by The Fulper Pottery Company of Flemington, NJ. The item is Swollen Form Shoulder Vase. The vase has some size to it as it stands 7 3/4" tall and is approximately 4 3/4" in diameter at the swollen shoulder.
The Vase is done in one of Fulper Pottery's most beautiful glazes called "Wistaria". I would say that you have a Mauve over a Purple under glaze giving this vase the color of grapes. The vase has a texture finish like Tiffany Cypriot Glass. It has the pin indents covering the entire vessel. It was purposely done for the effect. The Vase is a classic Swollen shape that tapers every so slightly towards the bottom. The Glaze color is absolutely beautiful.
The Vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. There is a grinding mark along the bottom edge and was done at the Factory. This is not damage as it was made this way. The Vase is marked on the underside bottom with Fulper's Racetrack Ink Stamp Signature mark. This would date this Vase to be made Circa 1922-1928. It is known as shape number 839 in the Fulper Catalog Pages according to the book on Fulper by Hibel-Defalco-Rago.
This is a wonderful example of this Form and Glaze from Fulper. I'm sure the Buyer will be quite pleased with their purchase. This would look outstanding on that Stickley, Mission, Arts and Crafts style Bookcase.
