For sale is a wonderful piece of art pottery made by the Fulper Pottery Company of Flemington, NJ. The item is a buttressed handled vase with a crystalline glaze. The vase has some size to it as it stands 6" tall and is approximately 8 1/4" in diameter at the waist. The foot has a diameter of 3" and the vessel opening is 2 1/8" inside rim measurement.
The vase displays an attractive squat form with arts and crafts styled buttress handles on each side of the vessel. The glaze is the Pea Green Crystalline glaze and it is quite nice. The top opening and buttress handles actually display an antique Verdi glaze on top of a pea green semi gloss glaze. The lower half and more towards the underside displays this wonderful crystalline glaze with lots of snowflake crystals. One side of the vase has more crystals than the other with both handles showing about the same amount.
The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips or dings. There are a few glaze misses on the underside bottom edge and cannot be seen when displayed. Usually this glaze has lots of pin pops. This vase seems to only have about 6 and they are evenly scattered and hard to see. The piece is signed on the bottom with the oval ink stamped racetrack Fulper signature. This dates it to to have been made circa 1922-1928. This is known as shape number 656 in the Fulper Pottery catalog pages and was called a "low handled jar".
This is an extremely desirable Arts and Crafts form and nice example of this glaze. The vase has a similar appearance to some Teco Pottery pieces I have owned in the past. This vase is very solid and well made. It has good weight to it as well. This vase would look just wonderful on that Stickley. Mission Arts and Crafts style bookcase or cabinet. You Fulper art pottery collectors will enjoy this vase.
