For sale is a large piece of art pottery made by The Roseville Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The pattern is called "Morning Glory". The shape is a large double handled footed urn form. The vase is quite large as it stands 9 3/8" tall and is 7 5/8" in diameter at its widest point.
The vase has a trophy shape. It is accented with beautiful embossed Morning Glory flowers set against a cream colored background with brown undertones. The flowers and buds are plentiful throughout and are set among the leaves and stems. The flowers are glazed in a mauve/purple and matte yellow. They are further accented with brown and cream colored pistils. The leaves are a very pleasing soft pastel teal green. The vase has 2 applied buttress style handles on each side.
The vase is considered to be in excellent condition. There are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The vase is signed on the bottom with a triangular black paper label that reads "Roseville Pottery". There is also the number "728" written in a red grease pencil. This was the model number for this vase. This shape is known as shape number 728-9" in the Roseville "Morning Glory" catalog pages. To have an original factory label is a real bonus with this vase as these usually came off when soaked in water. There is also a number 8 and a letter L written in a blue glaze. More than likely these were the finishers numbers.
This is a quality art pottery vase in a not so commonly found pattern. In fact there are only 17 cataloged shapes in this pattern. Recently more have been found but they are limited. Those of you who collect Morning Glory will welcome this addition into your collection. This vase was made circa, 1935.
