Tiffany

Sold

For sale is a hard to find desk set item made by Tiffany Studios of New York, New York. The item is a "Note Pad" and is done in the "Abalone" desk set pattern in Tiffany Studios fancy goods line. The patina on the metal is the very popular real gold patina with poly chrome highlights. The Note Pad measures 7 1/2" tall by 4 11/16" wide and 7/16" tall at the top. When the Note Pad is fully opened it measures 13 1/8".

The Note Pad has a rectangular shape. It has a raised relief Art Nouveau pattern that consists of grapes and leaves with real Abalone shell discs being used to represent the grapes. There are 3 clusters of 8 grapes of these Abalone discs set on the top side of the Note Pad.This is a very hard to find desk set item in the Abalone pattern when it has the poly chrome finish which consist of red and green highlights. It is considered by the Abalone desk set collectors to be the best finish to collect in this Tiffany Studios desk set fancy goods line. When found they are usually with a large set of several items up for auction. Rarely do you get the chance to buy just the Note Pad.

This Note Pad is considered to be in very good to excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, or dings to any of the metal. There is typical age wear to the red and green poly chrome. The hinge on the Note Pad works wonderful and is quite sturdy. It still retains all 3 screws on the back side. This Note Pad still retains all of its original Abalone discs. There is typical age wear to the real gold patina. The paper clip is properly signed on the back with the "Tiffany Studios New York" impressed mark along with the pattern number "1169" impressed just under it. There is also a number "3304" lightly scratched under the shape number. This was more than likely the order number.

Tiffany started using a 3 digit numbering system after 1902. Since this has a 4 digit number this Note Pad was made circa 1902-1905. Those of you who are looking for an very nice example of this Note Pad in the Abalone pattern with gold patina and poly chrome highlights will be delighted with their purchase.
