For sale is a pen made by Tiffany Studios of New York, New York. The pen is done in the "Pine Needle" desk set pattern. The patina on the metal is the most desirable Craftsman Brown with green. The Pen measures 6 1/8" long w nib installed. This is the smaller size that Tiffany used on his desk sets.
The Pen displays a beautiful and crisp pattern of Pine Needle. The patina is the highly collected Craftsman Brown Patina. Tiffany only used this Pattern of Pen for the Etched Metal, Pine Needle, and Grapevine desk set patterns. The pen is the smaller size that fits on the middle and bottom row of the Tiffany Pen Racks that have holders for 3 pens. He used 2 different sizes.
This Pen is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no dents or dings to the metal. The pattern is crisp and the patina is very good. The Pen is one of the hardest items to find in the Tiffany desk set items. They were never signed but there is no mistake as to who made this as it matches Tiffany's Pine Needle Desk set pattern beautifully. The patina is about an 8.0 out of a 10 and shows minor wear. I bout 2 pens with a Pen Rack recently and that Pen Rack was very early. I would say these Pens had been with it from the start. This pen was made circa 1895-1898.
I believe the Pine Needle pattern to have been the first of the Fancy Goods product lines made at Tiffany Studios. Those of you who are looking for a very nice example of this Pen in the Pine Needle pattern will be delighted with their purchase.
I show a picture of both Pens side by side. This sale is for the shorter Pen. I have the longer Pen in a separate auction.
